A Periodic Table of Visualization Methods

Visual Literacy is an ongoing interest of mine. I’ve written previously about Edward Tufte’s wonderful series of books on the topic. More recently, I stumbled upon a great website I’d like to share with you.

Professor Dr. Martin Eppler and Dr. oec. HSG Christian Muntwiler have created Visual.Literacy.org. The website is: https://www.visual-literacy.org/ Here you can get lost for a long time in some really interesting articles, charts, examples and videos on the topic of the visual display of information.

But before you get too lost, let me recommend my favorite part of the site, A Periodic Table of Visualization Methods. It looks like this, but this graphic isn’t interactive.

On the website you can go to: A Periodic Table of Visualization Methods.

You’ll see the real thing. By hovering over each item on the Table, you’ll see an example of each type of visualization. For someone searching for the best way to present information, this is a terrific resource.
