Today (January 14, 2025) marks the 15th anniversary of starting my consulting practice. On January 14, 2010, I started with B2B CFO. In October 2015 I went on my own and that has made all the difference. Why am I still working? There are several reasons below.
I Work For Myself
Working for myself and not having employees is simple and almost stress free. Clearly, I am unemployable anywhere else. If I had a boss, I would have retired by now.
I Love My Work
I work with a lot of clients, their employees, and other professionals and enjoy them all. The variety is good for someone as intellectually curious as I am. Making others more successful is very important and satisfying to me. After 15 years, I’ve seen some long-term clients achieve amazing results. It is very gratifying to be part of their successes.
I Like Money
Yep, I won’t lie, I like the money too. I don’t do this for the money, but I probably wouldn’t do it for free either.
The Biggest Reason
I don’t talk about this a lot, but I will now. Both of my parents died of Alzheimer’s Disease. It took six years for my dad and seven for my mom. You probably know there is a strong genetic connection with Alzheimer’s, and with both parents, it is a huge concern of mine. I did not like what I saw with my parents. Losing my mind before losing my body is very unappealing to someone like me.
As a result, I try to stay mentally active. I don’t know whether it will make a difference, but I try to do everything I can to avoid what I witnessed with my parents. I hope it helps.
Sorry to end on that note, but that’s what drives me.
